So a DIY card mails for about a dollar, and the format you choose matters more than the brand of card: postcards dodge both the envelope and 17 cents of postage. What's the cheapest DIY way to send 50 thank-you cards?

Boxed cards plus stamps, at about $49–$54 all-in. A 50-count boxed thank-you set runs $7.99 on Amazon to $9.99–$12.99 at Target, and 50 Forever stamps cost $41.00. Total: $48.99–$53.99.

Print-your-own photo cards cost more: at Shutterfly's regular $1.18–$1.74 per card, 50 personalized cards plus stamps land around $100–$128 — you get your photo on the card, but you still address, stuff, stamp, and mail all 50 yourself.

The cost DIY doesn't put on the receipt is time. At a realistic five minutes per card — write, address, stamp, seal — 50 cards is about four hours. If that's a pleasant evening with a pen, DIY genuinely wins. If it's the reason the box is still on the counter two months after the shower, it isn't.

Snapfish also offers a "Mail for Me" add-on at $1.49 per card on top of its base card price — the base varies by design, so an honest 50-card total isn't computable from their public pages.

Two patterns explain the spread. First, advertised prices often exclude postage — Thankster's "$1.79/card", Postable's "$4.59/card" and Handwrytten's "$3.75" all add a stamp at checkout, which is why the all-in column above is the only fair comparison.
