Thank You Card Writing Service: 3 Kinds of Help, Priced

9 min readby ShipNote Team
Three kinds of thank-you card help you can hire: a person who pens each card, a handwriting service that writes your typed text, and one note printed for every guest and mailed, beside two ShipNote wedding postcards

Yes, you can hire someone to do your thank-you cards, and there are three kinds of help. A person, a calligrapher or an Etsy seller, handwrites each card in pen. A handwriting service writes the text you type in a handwriting font, some with a robot holding a real pen. Or a print-and-mail service like ShipNote takes one note you wrote, puts each guest's name and gift into it, and prints and mails every card.

Which one fits depends on what you are paying to hand off: the pen, the words, or the whole job. We read every price below on each service's own site on October 28, 2026, at list price with no promo code. ShipNote is our product.

What does a thank-you card writing service cost?

With postage in, every service we priced on October 28, 2026 cost more per card than ShipNote's $1.99 at 50 and at 100 cards: folded cards a machine writes in a handwriting font ran $3.61 to $7.22 at 100, and a person handwriting, addressing and mailing each card $11.82 to $20 with the card included. ShipNote's card is printed, not handwritten, so the gap is partly the price of a pen.

The second column is what each card costs once it is in the mail. Where a service bills postage on top, we added the 82¢ stamp it charges.

Service Per card, with postage, at 50 / 100 cards Who writes the words Who puts them on the card Addresses and mails it?

Etsy handwriting sellers $12 to $20 a card, priced per card, at the one listing we saw that includes addressing and mailing You send the message A person, in pen Some do; most charge extra or ship the cards back to you
Heartfelt Handwriting, calligrapher From $11.82 / $11.82 You supply it, with help on the wording if you ask A calligrapher, in pen Addresses by hand and takes them to the post office

ShipNote's $1.99 is its price on 10 cards or more; one card is $2.49. Thankster's and Simply Noted's monthly plans go lower per card than the packs above, but at 100 cards a month both stay above $1.99 once the plan fee and postage are counted: Thankster's Medium plan is $1.79 a flat card plus $9.99 a month and postage, and Simply Noted's $0.99 note needs its $497-a-month plan. Heartfelt Handwriting's package starts at $11 with the envelope addressed in print lettering ($13 flourished, $17 calligraphy); its pricing page lists postage as an additional charge, which is the $11.82 above.

What does ShipNote do, and not do?

ShipNote does the whole job except the pen: you write one note, and we print it on a 4x6 postcard for every guest, with that guest's name and gift in it, then address and mail each card, postage included. It does not handwrite, and it does not write a hundred different notes for you. If what you want is the job done rather than the pen, it is the cheapest service we priced.

You write the note once, with two placeholders:

Dear [name], thank you so much for the [gift]. It already has a spot in our kitchen, and we think of you every time we use it. Love, Sam and Alex

On the card to your aunt, that prints as "Dear Aunt Linda, thank you so much for the stand mixer." On your college roommate's, "Dear Marcus, thank you so much for the cast iron pan." Paste the gift list from your registry and the names and gifts fill in themselves. The few people who deserve a longer note, a parent or the friend who officiated, get their own: you can edit any single card before it goes.

If the note itself is the hard part, our thank-you wording page has messages to start from. The cards mail the next business day, or on a day you pick. For the whole flow, from registry list to mailbox, see how ShipNote sends wedding thank-you cards.

What do you get when you hire a person to write them?

A real person writing in real ink, at $11.82 to $20 a card addressed and mailed with the card included, and a week or more of turnaround. It is the only option on this page where no machine is involved, and it is the most expensive by a wide margin: at 100 guests, from $1,182 with Heartfelt Handwriting, against ShipNote's $199.

Two kinds of person do this work.

A calligrapher. Heartfelt Handwriting, run by a calligrapher who mails from San Diego, was the top Google result for this search when we checked in October 2026. You supply a standard message for most cards and a personal one for any guest you choose, with help on the wording if you ask. The package includes a 5x7 card and envelope, the message handwritten in print lettering, the envelope addressed by hand in print, flourished or calligraphy lettering, and the trip to the post office. Turnaround is "1+ weeks", with a 20% rush fee for delivery within a week. Messages over 50 words cost extra, and quotes are custom. If you supply your own cards, its à la carte menu comes to $8.82 a card with postage: a $1 service fee, $4 for the message, $2 to address the envelope in print, $1 to stuff, stamp and seal, and the stamp.

Etsy sellers. Search Etsy for a handwriting service, not "thank you notes", or you get printed stationery. The listings we saw on October 28, 2026 asked $4 to $8 for one handwritten card where the cards ship back to you, and about $3 to $5 a card in the 100-card options two of them offered, at list price. On most, stamping and mailing were an extra or not offered, so the cards come back to you to mail. Two listed a per-card price with mailing: YoursMarked at $6.60 a card on your own stationery when the seller stamps and mails it, with envelope addressing extra, and ScooterLetters at $12 to $20 for a single card with an addressed envelope, stamp and mailing included. One seller quoted a two-week turnaround.

Whichever you hire, you still write the words: every one of these asks you for the message. Fiverr lists freelance handwriters too, but its pages blocked our price check on October 28.

What about robot-pen and handwriting-font services?

These services write the text you type in a handwriting font and mail the card; at Handwrytten and Simply Noted a robot holds a real pen. At 100 cards with postage, that was $3.61 (Thankster), $3.62 (Simply Noted) and $4.57 (Handwrytten) a card on October 28, 2026. You still write every message; the machine only does the writing.

thankyou.cards builds a font from your own handwriting free with every order, and its pen plotter writes in it, at $7.22 a folded card at 100 with postage. We have compared these services in detail, with their plans and minimums, in our Handwrytten alternatives and Simply Noted alternatives guides.

Their lowest per-card prices sit on monthly plans. For a one-time stack of wedding thank-yous, the packs in the table are the prices that apply.

Which other service fits your thank-you cards?

Hire a calligrapher or an Etsy writer when real ink in a person's hand is the point; a handwriting service when you want the look of handwriting at a lower price; and ShipNote when you want every card out the door this week for the least money. Each choice trades price against how the card is written.

  • Real handwriting, budget no object: a calligrapher like Heartfelt Handwriting. Plan for a week or more.
  • Real handwriting, a tighter budget: an Etsy seller, and mail the cards yourself.
  • Pen on paper, typed by you: Simply Noted or Handwrytten.
  • A handwriting font for less: Thankster.
  • In your own handwriting, without writing them: thankyou.cards, after it builds a font from your handwriting.
  • One note, every guest, mailed for you: ShipNote.

Wondering if a card that isn't handwritten is acceptable? We answer that in do thank-you cards have to be handwritten. And if you want help with the words rather than the pen, we tested whether ChatGPT can write your thank-you cards.

Frequently asked questions

Can you hire someone to write your thank-you cards?

Yes, three ways. A calligrapher or an Etsy seller handwrites each card in pen. A robot-pen service such as Handwrytten or Simply Noted writes your typed text with a machine holding a real pen. A print-and-mail service such as ShipNote prints one note you wrote on every card, fills in each guest's name and gift, and mails them.

How much does a thank-you card writing service cost?

Of the services we priced on October 28, 2026, at list price with postage, a person handwriting, addressing and mailing each card cost $11.82 to $20 a card with the card included, a folded card written by machine in a handwriting font $3.61 to $7.22 at 100 cards, and a ShipNote printed postcard $1.99 a card on 10 or more.

Is there a service that writes and mails wedding thank-you cards?

Yes. Heartfelt Handwriting's calligrapher writes the message you supply, hand-addresses the envelope and takes the cards to the post office. Robot-pen and handwriting-font services write and mail your typed text. ShipNote prints and mails a postcard to every guest from your one note.

Will someone write the words for me?

Mostly no. The calligraphers, Etsy sellers and handwriting services all ask you for the message; Heartfelt Handwriting will help with wording, and Thankster and thankyou.cards offer AI writing help. ShipNote asks for one note, not one per guest, and fills in each guest's name and gift.
