The Knot Wedding Thank-You Cards in 15 Minutes

ShipNote customize flow showing a wedding thank-you postcard preview, captioned 'The Knot registry to mailbox ยท 15 minutes'

The Knot's all-in-one wedding registry pulls in items from Crate & Barrel, Target, Amazon, and a dozen other retailers, plus its own cash and experience funds. Great for guests. Rough on couples who actually have to send thank-yous, because the Track Gifts page only shows giver names for some retailers โ€” partner retailers bury that data one click away.

This is the version that doesn't suck. Fifteen minutes from "I should really do this" to "every postcard is in the mail."

TL;DR

  • Sign in at theknot.com โ†’ Registry โ†’ Track Gifts
  • Click "Download List" for clean data (faster than copy-paste)
  • Partner-retailer rows (Crate, Target, etc.) show the gift and date only โ€” log into the partner registry for the giver's name
  • Pull addresses from your Knot guest list / RSVP tool (Track Gifts doesn't carry them)
  • Feed the Download List to ShipNote โ€” cash-fund and group-gift rows come through with contributor names and notes attached
  • One wedding postcard design and one [name]/[gift] template covers the whole Knot batch
  • Mailed next business day: $2.49 for a single card, $1.99 each once the batch hits 10 โ€” printing, addressing, and USPS postage inside that number

How does ShipNote compare to other ways to mail Knot thank-you cards?

Count the rows on Track Gifts before you pick a method. Between The Knot's own store, cash funds, group-gift contributors (each of whom needs their own card), and partner-retailer purchases, a Knot wedding list hits triple digits fast. Here's the math at 100 recipients:

Method Total time Cost per card (mailed) Addressing Postage
Handwriting + bought stationery + stamps 10โ€“18 hours ~$5.25 DIY DIY
Spreadsheet + photo lab + envelopes + stamps 4โ€“6 hours ~$3.30 DIY DIY
Printed photo cards (Shutterfly, Minted) + manual addressing + stamps 3โ€“5 hours ~$3.00 DIY DIY
ShipNote postcards from your Knot registry 15 minutes $1.99 Included Included

That $1.99 is genuinely all-in โ€” card, typed addressing, USPS first-class postage, next-business-day dispatch. No envelope run, no doing stamp math for a hundred cards.

Step 1: How do I open Track Gifts on The Knot?

The Knot tucks the gift data behind two clicks, but it's not hard to find:

  1. Go to theknot.com and sign in.
  2. Click Registry in the top nav.
  3. Under Your Registry, click "Track Gifts".

You'll land on a page with four columns: Purchased by, Gift Purchased, Order Status, and Date Purchased. The columns sort, the page is filterable by retailer, and there's a Download List button at the top.

Already convinced? Skip ahead and paste your Knot registry into ShipNote โ†’

Step 2: What does The Knot's Track Gifts actually show me?

The Track Gifts page is honest about what it has and what it doesn't:

  • Cash funds and Add-to-Knot items โ€” full giver info, including name, gift, and any message they left.
  • Partner retailers (Crate & Barrel, Target, Amazon, Pottery Barn, etc.) โ€” only the gift name and date appear here. To see the giver's name, click into the gift, which routes you to the partner site's "show purchaser" view.

This split is the most-asked-about quirk of The Knot's registry: people miss thank-yous because they didn't realize the Crate purchase had a name attached somewhere else. Click through to every partner retailer.

What you won't see on Track Gifts: mailing addresses. Those live in The Knot's separate guest-list / RSVP tool, if you used it for invitations.

Step 3: How do I export my Knot registry for thank-you cards?

The Knot makes this easy:

  • Click "Download List" (recommended). The Knot has a built-in download on the Track Gifts page โ€” clean tabular data, ready to paste.
  • For partner retailers, open each partner site one at a time and copy any extra giver info (name, message) you couldn't see on Knot directly.
  • For addresses, pull up your Knot guest list / RSVP tool in another tab.

You'll merge these in ShipNote inline โ€” no spreadsheet wrangling required.

Step 4: How does ShipNote turn my Knot registry into postcards?

Open ShipNote, start a batch, and paste the Download List contents straight into the registry box on the Thankees step โ€” column headers, partner-retailer fragments, and all. Don't pre-clean anything.

ShipNote's "Add from registry" paste box on the Thankees step, with the "Extract with AI" button below it

The parser reads The Knot's four Track Gifts columns and turns each row into a recipient:

  • Purchased by becomes the recipient name โ€” and because Track Gifts records every contributor to a group gift or cash fund by name, each contributor lands as their own row (and gets their own card)
  • Gift Purchased fills the [gift] slot in your message template
  • Notes left through The Knot ride along, so you can echo a line back on that one card ("you were right โ€” the Dutch oven is the best thing we own now")
  • Partner-retailer rows arrive as the gift and date with no giver attached โ€” exactly what The Knot itself shows for partnered registries. ShipNote flags them incomplete; drop in the name from the partner site's purchaser view as you work down the list
  • Track Gifts carries no mailing addresses, so every single row needs one: paste your Knot guest list / RSVP export alongside and the parser matches names to addresses in the same pass

ShipNote's recipient list after extraction โ€” each row gets a Ready badge once its name, address, and gift are filled in

Planned on WeddingWire instead? Same parent company โ€” The Knot Worldwide โ€” different product. The ShipNote side doesn't change: paste whatever gift list and RSVP export you have, wherever they came from.

Step 5: How quickly will my Knot thank-you cards arrive?

A Knot batch is usually the big one โ€” partner gifts plus cash funds plus every individual group-gift contributor. The useful news: size changes the price, not the work.

Pricing first, since the batch is large. A single postcard runs $2.49; at 10 or more cards the whole batch drops to $1.99 per card, with glossy printing, typed addressing, USPS first-class postage, and next-business-day dispatch inside that rate. A 100-card Knot wedding batch is $199, total, and takes the same fifteen minutes as a 12-card one.

Pick a layout and photo. The wedding designs (polaroid, magazine cover, split-color, classic) preview live as you upload and crop.

ShipNote's Customize Front screen โ€” Magazine Cover layout with a wedding photo, "THANK YOU" headline, and an "ALEX & JORDAN / 05.16.2026" byline, previewed live

Write one template, in two variants. Knot batches almost always need both. For boxed gifts โ€” whether bought on The Knot or through a partner retailer:

Dear [name], thank you so much for the [gift] โ€” we've already started using it and it's such a thoughtful addition to our home. We're so grateful you celebrated with us.

And a contributor version for the cash-fund and group-gift rows:

Dear [name], thank you for contributing toward [the honeymoon / the espresso machine / our first-home fund] โ€” it means more than we can fit on a postcard, and we thought of you when we used it.

ShipNote swaps [name] and [gift] into each card; a group gift's five contributors become five personalized cards without extra typing.

ShipNote's Customize Back screen โ€” the message template editor with placeholder tokens, next to the sender's return-address form

Confirm and pay. Every card is mailed the next business day and lands in 4โ€“7 days nationwide via USPS first class. The window between "Download List" and "every Knot thank-you is in the mail" really is one evening.

Common Knot wedding thank-you questions

How do I see who bought what on my Knot registry?

Sign in at theknot.com, click "Registry", then "Track Gifts". You'll see Purchased by, Gift Purchased, Order Status, and Date Purchased. For partner retailers, click through to the partner site to see the giver's name.

Does The Knot share guest addresses with the couple?

The Track Gifts page doesn't show addresses. The Knot's separate guest-list/RSVP tool stores addresses if you used it for invitations โ€” pull from there and ShipNote accepts them inline.

When should we send Knot wedding thank-yous?

Etiquette says within three months of the wedding (and within two weeks of any early gifts). ShipNote turns that from a multi-week project into a one-evening one โ€” and the complete wedding thank-you walkthrough covers timing, wording, and mailing end to end.

What's the best postcard design for a Knot wedding thank-you?

If you have a strong wedding photo, the magazine or polaroid layouts read as a real keepsake. If you don't, the split-color layouts pair cleanly with most Knot invitation suites.

Can I include a wedding photo on the postcard?

Yes โ€” every ShipNote design supports a custom photo. Upload, crop, and preview live before you order.

Do group-gift contributors on The Knot each get their own thank-you card?

They should โ€” and The Knot makes it easy. Track Gifts records each contributor to a group gift or cash fund by name, along with any note they included. Paste the list into ShipNote and every contributor becomes their own card; thank them for the contribution ("toward our espresso machine"), not for the whole gift.

Will gift notes from The Knot show up in ShipNote?

For purchases made through The Knot โ€” its own store, cash funds, group gifts โ€” Track Gifts shows any note the purchaser chose to include, and ShipNote's parser surfaces it per row. Partner-retailer rows show only the gift and date on The Knot, so look for those notes on the partner site or the packing slip.

We used WeddingWire, not The Knot โ€” does this still work?

Yes. WeddingWire and The Knot share a parent company (The Knot Worldwide) but are separate products โ€” and the ShipNote side is identical either way. Paste whatever gift list and RSVP addresses you have and the parser does the rest.

Can I order a few samples before committing to the whole batch?

Worth doing for a big Knot batch: order one card to your own address first. A single runs $2.49, and you'll have the stock, print, and addressing in hand before committing the other ninety-nine.

Where can I find a more detailed Knot walkthrough?

We keep the always-current step-by-step guide on the Knot registry thank-you page, including notes on partner-retailer giver-name reconciliation.

What's included with every ShipNote postcard

  • Printed on glossy postcard stock
  • Personalized message + photo + recipient name
  • Typed addressing (no handwritten labels)
  • USPS first-class postage
  • Next-business-day mailing
  • No subscription, no add-ons, no hidden fees

Save your address book for next time

You did the annoying part exactly once โ€” chasing purchaser names across partner sites and pulling addresses out of the Knot RSVP tool. ShipNote keeps all of it: every recipient lands in your account's address book, so the first-anniversary cards, December's holiday batch, and the eventual baby announcement start from a filled-in list instead of a second scavenger hunt.

Already past the three-month etiquette window? Is it too late to send wedding thank-you cards? covers the wording for three months out, six, a year, and beyond.

Paste your Knot registry into ShipNote โ†’ First batch ships next business day. From $1.99 per card. No subscription.
