How to Add Thank-You Cards to Your Baby or Wedding Registry

Yes, you can put thank-you cards on your registry. Not a box of blank cards that you still have to write, address and stamp, but the whole job: a pack of cards a guest buys, which you fill in from your gift list and ShipNote prints, stamps and mails.

To add thank-you cards to your registry, add a ShipNote card pack. On Babylist, press Add to Babylist on the pack page. On a registry that lets you add an item from another store, such as Zola, The Knot, Amazon, MyRegistry or Joy, add the pack page. When a guest buys it, they send you the gift link (or have ShipNote email it to you); you paste your gift list, and your cards go out with nothing to pay.

Below: what the pack is, which size to add, how to add it to each registry, and what happens after a guest buys it.

What is a ShipNote thank-you card pack?

A pack is a set number of thank-you cards, bought by a guest and used by you. ShipNote prints thank-you postcards and mails them for you: you paste the gift list from your registry, write one message, and each card names its guest and the gift they gave. Every card is printed, stamped with First-Class postage and mailed.

Normally you pay for that batch at checkout. With a pack, a guest has paid for it already. When your list fits inside the pack, checkout shows nothing to pay and you press Send my cards. If your list is longer, you pay only for the cards past the pack.

It works for a baby shower, a wedding, or both. The pack isn't tied to an occasion; you choose the design and the message when you use it.

Which pack should you add?

Count the people you will thank: everyone who bought from the registry, gave at the shower or the wedding, or sent a gift on their own. Add the pack closest to that number.

Pack Price
25 cards $49.75
50 cards $99.50
100 cards $199.00

All three are $1.99 a card, the same price as ordering 10 or more cards yourself. Adding the smaller pack keeps it within reach for more guests, and if your list runs past it, you only pay for the extra cards.

How do you add it to your registry?

Open the card packs and choose a pack. Each pack has its own page, and that page is what you add.

On Babylist, press Add to Babylist on the pack page. It sends Babylist the pack's title, price and picture, and Babylist takes it from there.

The Add to Babylist button on a ShipNote card pack page, under a line saying the page's link also works in any registry's add-from-another-store box

On Zola, The Knot, Amazon, MyRegistry or Joy, use the registry's own way to add an item from another store. Depending on the registry, that is a box where you paste a product link, or a browser button you press while you're on the product's page. Either way, give it the pack page.

Paste the pack page, never a gift link. A gift link is the private link a guest gets after buying a pack; it belongs to that one gift. The pack page is the public page anyone can buy from, and it's the one a registry should point to.

If your registry only lists items from its own store, keep the pack on a universal registry such as Babylist or MyRegistry, or share the pack page's link with anyone who asks what you'd like.

If you keep more than one registry, managing gifts from several registries covers how the lists come back together when it's time for thank-yous.

What happens when a guest buys it?

  1. The guest buys the pack on shipnote.co. They don't need an account. They type your names, and your email if they want us to send you the gift.
  2. You get the gift link. The guest receives it by email and forwards it to you, or ShipNote emails it to you once if they typed your email. The link opens a page saying who gave it.
  3. You start your cards. Press Start my cards, choose a design and write one message.
  4. You paste your gift list. Your registry's gift list, a spreadsheet or the notes from the shower: paste it as it is. Every name, address and gift becomes a card, and the batch shows the gift and how many cards it still covers.
  5. You send. Within the pack, checkout shows nothing to pay, and you press Send my cards. Over the pack, you pay for the extra cards only.

The cards are printed, stamped and mailed for you. If some guests didn't share an address, finding a registry gift giver's address covers where to look.

Is it tacky to put thank-you cards on a registry?

No more than any practical item. Registries have moved well past china and towels: diapers, meal deliveries and cleaning visits are all common now, because they are what new households actually use. Thank-you cards sit in the same group.

It also helps the guest. A pack is an easy gift to buy online, it ships nothing to anyone's door, and it suits a guest who wants to give something useful. Keep it as one item on a full registry, the same as you would any other practical gift.

Frequently asked questions

Can you put thank-you cards on your registry?

Yes. A ShipNote thank-you card pack can go on Babylist with its Add to Babylist button, and on Zola, The Knot, Amazon, MyRegistry or Joy by pasting the pack page's link into their add-from-any-store option. A guest buys it, and your cards are printed, stamped and mailed.

Is it tacky to put thank-you cards on your registry?

No more than any practical item. Guests who like useful gifts often look for one, and it can be a small, easy gift for a guest who wants to give something without spending much. Keep it as one item among many, not the centerpiece.

What happens if my guest list is bigger than the pack?

You pay only for the cards past the pack, at the price shown at checkout. The pack covers the rest, and nothing asks you to remove names.

How do I get the cards once someone buys the pack?

The guest who buys it gets a gift link by email. They can forward it to you, or type your email when they buy and ShipNote emails it to you once. Open the link, paste your gift list, write one message and send.
