Baby Shower Gift Tracker: Free Printable and Excel Template

Baby gifts arrive from everywhere: the shower table, the registry, a cousin's attic, the hospital room. This log keeps them on one list, with the giver's mailing address and the day each thank-you went out. Print it for the shower, or open it in Excel or Google Sheets.

Doesn't the registry already track baby gifts?

Only the ones bought from it. A registry's gift list is a record of purchases, so the gifts handed over at the shower without a registry, the hand-me-downs, and anything from a second registry never appear on it. That is what this log is for.

Babylist is a good example. Its Gift Tracker lists each gift marked as purchased, with the giver's name and email, the store and order number if they gave one, and a mailing address only if they chose to share it (Babylist help, checked October 15, 2026). A guest records a gift by finding the item on your registry and choosing “I purchased this” (Babylist help), so its help describes no way to record a gift that was never on the list. And the guest list in Babylist Showers takes a name with an email or phone number, not a mailing address (Babylist help). Our guide to baby shower thank-you cards covers downloading the Babylist Thank You list itself; copy its rows into this log and you have everything on one sheet.

Where do baby gifts come from?

Five places, and only one of them is on your main registry. Each needs its own habit, because the giver's name is easy to lose at a different moment for each. Write the source in the Came from column: it decides which thank-you a gift gets.

Came fromHow to catch it
ShowerOpened in front of everyone, so it is the easiest to lose. One friend sits beside you with the printed log and writes each gift as you read the tag aloud.
Shipped from registryBoxes that arrive at the door before or after the shower. Log the giver from the packing slip or gift note the day it arrives, before the box goes to recycling.
Hand-me-downThe bassinet a cousin is done with, a sister's bag of clothes. Nobody bought these, so no store or registry knows about them, and they are the gifts most often left unthanked.
Second registryGifts bought from an Amazon or Target list when your main one is Babylist, or the other way round. Each site keeps its own list, so this log is where they meet.
After the babyGifts mailed or carried in after the birth: a visit to the hospital, a box from a relative who missed the shower, the meals someone dropped off the first week.

A sprinkle for a second baby works the same way on a smaller scale. Keep it in the same file and write “Sprinkle” in Came from, so its gifts stay apart from the first baby's.

What goes in each column?

Ten columns: the giver, the gift, the address in five parts, where the gift came from, the date your note went out, and notes. Write the gift the way it will sound on the card, short and plain.

ColumnWhat goes in it
GiverThe name you’d greet them by: “Priya”, “Grandma Rose”, “Friends at Brightline Design” for an office that chipped in.
GiftJust the thing, as you’d say it: “car seat”, “sleepers”, “diaper cake”. Leave out “for the baby” and the size, since the card already says “for the baby”.
Street addressHouse number and street. For an office group gift, the office.
Apt or unitIts own column, so an apartment number can’t drop off the street line.
CityAs the post office spells it.
StateThe two-letter code.
ZIPFive digits, stored as text so a leading zero stays put.
Came fromShower, Shipped from registry, Hand-me-down, Second registry or After the baby.
Thank-you sentThe date the note went out. Every blank cell is a note still owed.
NotesThe size, a gift receipt, a duplicate to return, a check number.

Baby gifts tempt you to log the details: “Carter's 0-3M sleepers, 3-pack, gray”. Put the size and the receipt in Notes, where they help with an exchange, and keep the Gift cell to “sleepers”. An office that pooled for one stroller is one row, addressed to the office.

What does a filled-in baby gift log look like?

Like this. A shipped car seat already thanked, a shower gift with its size kept in Notes, a hand-me-down, an office group gift, and a gift that came after the birth with no address yet.

What do you write for gifts that arrive after the baby?

A note written for after the birth. A ShipNote baby shower card says “Thank you so much for the thoughtful board books for the baby.” and goes on: “Your kindness means the world to us as we get ready for this exciting new chapter.” Once the baby is home, that second sentence reads oddly, so send those gifts as their own batch, with a message you write for now.

That is why Came from matters. Filter it to everything before the birth and send those first, ideally before the due date, while you still have time. Send the After the baby rows later as a second batch, with a message that mentions the new arrival and, if you like, a photo of the baby on the front. If the baby arrives before the shower batch goes out, change the second sentence of the message for those cards too. And if only a card or two needs different wording, you can rewrite those cards one at a time when you review the batch, before you pay.

Which baby registries give you the giver's address?

Some do, when the giver shares it. Copy names and gifts from the registry's list, then fill the address columns from your shower invitation list or by asking.

RegistryMailing addresses on its gift list
AmazonAmazon shows a giver's address only where they shared it; the rest of the rows carry a "Why no address?" link instead.
BabylistBabylist shows an address in your Gift Tracker only when the giver shared one at checkout, so expect a few rows with a name and no address.
WalmartWalmart shares who bought each gift and their message, but its Registry FAQ never mentions a mailing address, so plan to add them from your guest list.
MyRegistryMyRegistry records each giver's name and email, not a mailing address.

For a Target baby registry, see our Target registry page.

How do you open it in Google Sheets or Excel?

Download the .xlsx. Excel and Numbers open it directly; in Google Sheets, use File, Import, Upload. The ZIP column is already text, so a ZIP that starts with 0 keeps it.

Turn on a filter for Came from and Thank-you sent and you can see what is still owed from each source. The CSV is for other apps. If a spreadsheet has already shortened a ZIP to four digits, here is how to restore its leading zero (ZIP is column G here).

Can ShipNote mail the thank-you cards from the log?

Yes. Pick a baby shower postcard, keep or edit the one message with its gift placeholder, then paste the rows still owed a note or upload the file. Each card prints that giver's name and gift: “Thank you so much for the thoughtful car seat for the baby.”

Paste rather than upload when you have filtered the sheet: copy the visible rows with the heading row, because a filter only hides rows and an uploaded file still holds the ones you already thanked. Only the giver, the gift and the address carry over; Came from, Thank-you sent and Notes stay behind. You see every card before you pay, and a giver with no address gets a private link from ShipNote, sent by you, where they type it in themselves.

Cards are $1.99 each on 10 or more, printing and postage included. They mail the next business day, or on a date you pick at checkout up to 90 days out. For a bridal shower, the wedding gift tracker fits better.

Log full? We'll mail the thank-yous.

Each giver gets a postcard that names their own gift, printed and stamped for you. Order 10 or more and each one is $1.99, postage included.
