The list

Who on a shower list gets a card

A shower list is not one kind of guest. The starter note thanks for a gift, which is right for most rows, so here is what prints on each card and which ones to open and rewrite before you pay.

  • A guest who came and gave a gift

The note you wrote, with their name and the gift from their row of your list.

Nothing to do. The registry export or the list the host kept during gift opening is the row.

  • The host, or the friends who threw the shower

A card of its own. Their row has no gift, so open their card before checkout and write it to thank them for the shower itself.

One card per household. A co-hosted shower is two or three cards.

  • A guest who came without a gift

A card thanking them for being there, rewritten on their card alone. The rest of the batch keeps the gift note.

Whether that card is expected is its own question; we answer it in the FAQ below.

  • Someone who could not come but sent a gift from the registry

The gift note, from the registry row. Their address is whatever the registry shared, or one you request with a link.

Registries only pass on the addresses guests chose to share, so this is the row most often missing one.

  • A group gift: the cousins, or an office pool

One card per contributor address when you know who chipped in, each naming the shared gift. An office team gets one card addressed to the team.

When we read a pasted list, a bare dollar amount becomes "generous gift" or "cash gift" rather than the number; a gift you type in yourself prints as you typed it.

  • A sprinkle for a second baby

The same batch at a smaller size; the starter note fits a sprinkle as it is.

Under 10 cards the price is $2.49 a card instead of $1.99.

Where the rows come from, and how to fill in the addresses the registry did not pass on, is the job of our guide to sending baby shower thank-yous from a registry list.

The note

One note, and every card names its gift

You write the note once, in the baby's voice or yours. Each card fills in that guest's name and the gift from their row of your list.

Grandma, the host and the coworker who organized the office pool each get their own line: open their card before checkout and rewrite it, without touching the rest. For the words, see our baby shower thank-you messages by guest.

Before or after the baby

Order now, pick the day the cards mail

A shower comes weeks before the baby does. Write every card while the gift list is fresh, then mail them next business day or hold the batch for a day you choose, up to 90 days out. Cards reach mailboxes 4–7 business days after they mail.

Ordering before the baby arrives

  • The front carries what you know now: the baby's name if you have chosen it, or a line like "BABY HARRIS", and the due season in place of a date.
  • The photo is the shower, the nursery, or the two of you; the newborn photo waits for the birth announcement.
  • Order the week after the shower, while the host's list and the registry still agree, and the cards mail the next business day.

Writing now, mailing after the birth

  • Write the whole batch now, then at checkout tap "Choose a later mail date" and "On a date I choose": any weekday from two business days out to 90 days out, such as three weeks past the due date.
  • Nothing prints before that day. The cards hold with the front and note exactly as you approved them, so the front says what you knew when you ordered.
  • Cancel from your order page for a full refund until noon Eastern on the business day before the mail date.

Your lists

Paste the registry, and the host's list

Babylist's Gift Tracker, an Amazon or Target registry page, the list a friend kept during gift opening, or a photo of it: paste each one as it is, and every name, address and gift becomes a row. Paste the next list and it joins the same batch, duplicates skipped.

Pricing

What a shower's worth of thank-you cards costs

$2.49 a card, or $1.99 a card from 10 cards. The price covers the printing, the address, First-Class postage and the mailing, so a shower list of forty is one number.

ShipNote baby shower thank-you card price by batch size, postage included
CardsPer cardTotal, mailed
20$1.99$39.80
40$1.99$79.60
60$1.99$119.40

No minimum and no account. What is printed on each side of the card is on our thank-you postcards page, and how the list and the mailing are handled is on thank-you cards mailed for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about a baby shower batch, before and after the baby.

Within two to three weeks of the shower is the usual advice, and a card that arrives after the baby does is still welcome. Write them in one sitting while the gift list is fresh, and if the birth is close, hold the batch to mail after it. Baby shower thank-you messages, by guest

Yes. At checkout, tap "Choose a later mail date", choose "On a date I choose" and pick a weekday up to 90 days out. We hold every card until that day, and it reaches mailboxes 4–7 business days after it mails; the cancel rule is in the before-or-after section above.

Keep that guest on the list with just a name. When you press Next: Review, the row is flagged and offers "Don't have their address? Request it with a link": text the link to the guest, they type their own address, and we email you when it arrives with a button that brings their card back, addressed. The rest of the batch mails without waiting. Getting who gave what, and the addresses, out of your registry

Yes: the newborn, the shower table, the nursery, or the two of you. One photo, or two to four as a collage, with the baby's name and a date on most designs. For a card that goes out before the newborn pictures exist, there are designs with no photo at all.

A postcard suits a thank-you that names the gift in a few warm sentences, and it is the one that ends up on the fridge. It is open, so keep private details and dollar amounts off it; a note that needs an envelope is a folded card. When a thank-you postcard is the right choice

The baby on the front. Their gift on the back.

Pick a design, write one note and paste the list. Your cards are printed and in the mail the next business day, or on the day you pick, from $1.99 a card on 10+.
